SENIORS: YOUR SENIOR PORTRAITS ARE DUE BY THE END OF JANUARY 2012. If they are not submitted by then, the LifeTouch photos will be used in place of your senior portrait. If you are not planning on getting senior pictures taken, please let a yearbook staff member know or tell Mr. Adams. Yearbook staff members are: Jessie Funkhouser, Madi Gerdes, Harley Huskins, Keenan Nunez, Tyler Pendland, Alexis Pettid, Kylee Pospisil, Samantha Schulz, and Morgan Williams. PHOTO SPECS What the company prefers for the composite is a vertical, wallet sized photo that is approximately 2 inches wide by 3 inches tall. A head & shoulder shot is preferred over a full head to toe shot because the size of the senior portraits usually ends up smaller in the yearbook than the original image. We can use either hard copy photos, or they may be attached to an email as a jpeg image. Email your jpeg images to: jadams@w-harrison.k12.ia.us If you submit a hard copy, the image is scanned and returned to the senior. If they are submitted via email, we prefer that they be 300 dpi and not less than 225 dpi. The senior pictures are needed for: 1) the yearbook, 2) the newspapers, and 3) the composite that will hang in the commons. You may have different poses/pictures for each of these –OR– you may use the same photo for all three. The choice is yours. These senior portraits are ONLY used for the 3 purposes listed above. Your senior photos are not made available to any of the yearbook staff members or any other individuals for personal use. Thank you to the seniors who've already taken care of this responsibility! |
The West Harrison Board of Education would like to make all patrons of the district aware that on the advice of legal counsel from the Iowa Department of Education, students will no longer be doing door-to-door fundraising related to any activities for the West Harrison Community Schools. Door to door fundraising has become a major safety and legal issue for schools; as such we can no longer support this type of fundraising for our programs. There may be other groups who continue door-to-door sales, but no group sanctioned by the school will be selling in this manner. We would like for our patrons to know some of our programs still rely on fundraising to support them. As such, we will still be providing for fundraisers that patrons may choose to attend, however we would like to provide a different approach also. One of the recommendations that we have received from the public was to accept donations, which could be earmarked for specific programs by the donor, and provide a receipt for tax purposes. Included with this letter you will find a list of the organizations that have raised funds in the past, and the amounts that they believe they will need to raise for this school year. You may make a donation for a particular group or groups, or a general donation that will be split amongst all organizations. Thank you for your understanding. Please feel free to contact the school should you have any questions regarding this matter. Respectfully, Joel Foster

WEST HARRISON AND NO FRILLS ARE WORKING TOGETHER TO IMPROVE EDUCATION!
Once again we are asking for your support. Please send your No Frills “Our Family” product labels to school. Make sure to include the UPC bar code when you cut or tear them from the product. The 6-12 Life Skills classroom is collecting labels that we can turn into cash. For every 500 labels collected West Harrison will receive $25.00 (.05 cents per label) to purchase needed materials (At times, the labels are worth .15 cents per label.) Our class is also able to use the labels for sorting, cutting, and functional daily living skills activities. The money we receive will allow us to work on functional skills within our community. Thank you for working together to build a better education for our children.
